Hip Hop and Food: A Great Combination

Once again, I came into this assignment with a little experience using Audacity from work in a previous class (actually for a blog assignment as well). However, once again, I would consider myself far from an expert in using this program. I actually had a lot of trouble remembering how to cut audio clips from files and complete other basic functions; it’s not like riding a bike. I had to look up answers to some of my questions. However, unlike when I designed the header, I tried to “dive in” and explore Audacity rather than look for a bunch of tutorials and follow their instructions verbatim. It may have taken a bit longer but I feel that I was able to take a different and valuable journey in learning.

The easiest part of creating this commercial was choosing songs to play throughout my voice over. There’s no genre of music dedicated to food, so I had some room for creativity when choosing my songs. I am an avid hip hop fan and I thought that this was a great opportunity to let my personality and interests shine through on this small part of my blog.

The Fat Boys song is reminiscent of more old school hip hop but the lyrics of their intro match the theme of my blog perfectly. The Jay Z instrumental track that plays under my voice has a fantastic beat that pumps up the energy (at least for me).

I am fairly happy with my commercial but I think that, with some more experience, I could create an even better one. First of all, I’m not too comfortable with the way my voice sounds when recorded. I think that if I practiced speaking for recording purposes, I might be able to make a more professional sounding commercial. Overall, I didn’t find this assignment nearly as painful as photo editing. This might because I had much lower expectations for the final result in this case; when I started my header, I had some pretty grand ideas about the final result and, as a novice, I wasn’t quite able to make them come true.

  1. This kind of made me giggle! I liked the first song pertaining to your blog – perfect fit. I also liked how it was much shorter so it could have been an ACTUAL commercial on the radio or something. I thought the JayZ song was transitioned perfectly into. Great job!

  2. You did a good job with your commercial! I like how the first song actually related to food. You also did a good job seamlessly bringing the two songs together. Your commercial was also straight to the point- good job!

  3. I haven’t heard the songs you chose but they’re really funky and fun haha. I thought it gave the commercial a groovy vibe to it. The cross fade from your intro to your description blended really well. One thing you could’ve done better was make your outro more distinguishable by crossfading from the music bed into a higher volume outro. Other than that, great job!

  4. Hey! I like your commercial. I think the song choice was clever and relevant to what your blog is about. I also thought you did a great job with the voiceover. Your voice was clear and articulate and made what you were saying very easy to understand. The fade out of the first song and transition into your speaking part was very smooth as well. I don’t really have any critique since it was very well done. Great job!

  5. I thought your commercial came out really well! I liked how you switched songs during your voice over, I haven’t really seen anyone else do that. I think it came out great, I don’t really have any recommendations for you.

  6. I definitely like your first choice in songs. It is very topical and catchy. Also good job with making the second song quieter. It was fairly easy to hear your voice. Good Job.

  7. You’re lucky you used audacity before because I literally had no clue what to do, nor have I ever heard of audacity before this assignment. Like you, I had to look for tutorials to guide me through, but I needed the videos to guide me ALL THE WAY THROUGH with EVERY STEP explained. I listened to your commercial and it sounds great. You’re right, there isn’t anything better to blog about than food. I could argue that makeup is a close second however lol (I’m referring to my blog in case you didn’t catch that).

  8. Your commercial sounds great! I love the fact that you used soundcloud, and I was I would have thought of that earlier because i struggled with google drive. My only recommendation is that maybe the end song should just go a few seconds longer, but other than that it sounds great!
